Asterix in Belgium (2017)

31 March 2020

Once a week, we will evoke one of the exhibitions realized by the museum during its 30 years of existence through archive photos.

The first episode presents the exhibition "Asterix in Belgium, a playful exhibition about the Northern Gauls" presented in 2017. Crowned with great success, it confirmed once again the popularity of the heroes of Goscinny and Uderzo.

René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo began their joint career here in Belgium. So it's not surprising that they wanted to take their Gaul heroes to the flat country they loved so much.

After having travelled through many European countries, Asterix and his friends visited our ancestors' region where they discovered the origin of our customs and traditions. A passage also strongly influenced by Julius Caesar and his famous quote "Of all the peoples of Gaul, the Belgians are the bravest". Which people can be said to be even braver than the Gauls of the village of Abraracourcix?

Once they crossed the wooden palisades that surrounded the village and the exhibition, the visitors found themselves face to face with their favourite heroes before discovering the specific Belgian characteristics of a mythical album. The aim was to have fun as a family by playing various games based on the knowledge of the series. And it all ended, as tradition dictates, with a big banquet, washed down with Belgian beer, naturally!
