The Printer's

At the roundabout at the Boulevard de Berlaimont - where the statue of Gaston Lagaffe once welcomed every visitor to Brussels - the building does not immediately attract attention. Strange because the 1940s building by architect Marcel Van Goethem greets you like a big, friendly giant. Majestic in its simple modernism. Until 2020, millions of banknotes were printed behind the building's walls. By the end of 2022, the National Bank's printing presses have given way to drawing tables, light boxes and pencil sharpening.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a studio was set up so close to and in collaboration with the Belgian Comic Art Museum. A shared studio, where comic book authors can work side by side, share their experiences and learn from each other's expertise. From September 2022 to December 2023, eight (international) comic authors enjoyed the use of the shared comic studio The Printer’s. They worked there on their own comics, and some of them also on a joint publication.

Get to know this unique project and especially these professionally talented comic book authors.
