Open call The Printer's 2026

Published on 14 April 2026

Are you a comic book author?
Do you have a project in progress?
Are you looking for a warm and inspiring work space?
This proposal might be of interest for you.

The Comic Art Museum of Brussels invites you to submit your application to join its Comic Book Studio: THE PRINTER'S!

Sign up here.

THE PRINTER'S

Our shared studio at 33-35 Zandstraat will be open – free of charge – from 1 September to 31 December 2026 (exact dates are yet to be confirmed).

For four months, four Belgian comic artists, or artists living in Belgium, will have the opportunity to work on their projects there. Everyone will be provided with a workspace, and there will be an A3 scanner, printer, Wi-Fi, a communal kitchen and (of course) toilet facilities available.

The artists in residence will occasionally be joined by international residents to promote intercultural exchange and enrich the creative dynamic of the project.

AIM
We have set up this studio to provide a working environment tailored to the professional needs and expectations of comic book authors. As the creative profession can sometimes be a solitary one, the Comic Art Museum aims to create a genuine creative hub through this shared studio.

In this way, authors are encouraged to work side by side and share their experiences, working methods and different perspectives with one another.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Anyone can apply for this opportunity. There are no restrictions regarding age, years of experience or publications.

Apply by 4 May 2026 at the latest by submitting the following:

  • A Curriculum Vitae outlining your career as a comic artist;
  • A portfolio that provides a good overview of your work;
  • A description of the project or projects you will be working on during your residency. This description must include at least a statement of intent for the project and may be supplemented with a pitch, a synopsis, as well as some graphic studies and/or drawings (in pencil or ink);
  • A cover letter of no more than one page explaining why you would like to join us for a residency, what you would like to contribute to this experience, and what benefits you hope to gain from it.

The selection will be made by a jury of comic book professionals.

INTERESTED?
Please submit your application by 4 May 2026 by completing the form, which you can find here. The jury will deliberate during May. Selected candidates will be notified of the jury’s decision by email by 19 June at the latest.

Any questions or uncertainties? You can send them by email to Jérôme Puigros-Puigener (jpp@cbbd.be).
