Gipi or the Power of Emotions

Gipi (Gianni Alfonso Pacinotti) was born in Pisa in 1963 and produces illustrations for publishing houses, and also regularly works on collaborations with the Italian press. In 2006, he shot into the limelight with his impressive graphic novel, Notes pour une histoire de guerre, which was awarded the prize for the best comic book at the Festival of Angoulême. In that same year, his story Les Innocents was nominated at the Eisner Awards. In his comic books, autobiographies (S., Ma vie mal dessinée) and fiction (Bons baisers de la Province, Le local, En descendant le fleuve et autres histoires), he covers human relationships with an incredible sensitivity. Gipi is an extremely original author; a realist in terms of substance and expressionist in terms of design. His powerful drawings and gentle narration have thrust him to the top of contemporary comic strip art.
