A Quebec symphony by R.Loisel and J-L.Tripp
The Magasin général series is written and illustrated by Régis Loisel and Jean-Louis Tripp. The pair worked together on the series from 2006 to 2014 in a partnership which brought them friendship and new experiences. Pooling their complementary talents, they composed a particularly perceptive and poignant symphony of village life in nine movements (or tomes).
The Magasin Général is the only store in Notre Dame des Lacs. All life in this small rural village centres around the store and its owner, Marie, who is bombarded by a steady stream of characters, anecdotes and sounds which paint a wonderful picture of rural Quebec in the late 1920s. The very many day-to-day happenings in the community are described with humour, compassion and a Quebec French befitting the scene.
This profoundly human series has become a must for all comic strip fans and the Belgian Comics Art Museum is delighted to offer its visitors an insight into its unique world and the different stages of its creation.
